The Port Harcourt Southern Base Co-operative Society Limited was incorporated in July 2011 under the Nigerian Cooperative Societies Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1993 with its area of operation within Nigeria and beyond. SouthernBase Co-op was registered as a multipurpose co-op. In our co-op everybody has equal rights, not minding how much you invest.

One of our biggest objectives is to create investment and be part of the economy of Nigeria, serve as employer of labour, Prepare work citizens for retirement, encourage regular savings amongst members.

Our Objectives

SouthernBase Co-op operates with core objectives as follows:

Financial Security

To create financial security and to promote the economic interests of its members through investment in area of their day to day spending.

Savings

To encourage regular savings so that each member may cultivate the habit of making savings, with a view to build up funds for his/her future use.

Short/Long-term Loans

To encourage fixed deposits from members out of which a fund may be established for giving short-term loans to members and non-members.

Goods Distribution

To stock consumers and producers goods for distribution to members and non-members.

Goods Manufacturing

To undertake, where practicable, the production or manufacture of such consumers-or/and producers goods for distribution to members and non-members.

Property Acquisition

To acquire movable and immovable properties of any description either as assets of the Society or for distribution, supply or sale to members.

Economic/Social Involvment

To engage in any other economic or social activity as may be approved by the general meeting of the members.

Affiliate Societies

To affiliate with such Secondary or Apex Co-operative Societies as may encourage and promote the above objectives

Cooperative Members

To promote Cooperative spirit among the members, to work for the improvement of local educational and living standards and to encourage the development of Cooperative Movement in Rivers State of Nigeria and Nigeria as a whole

OUR INVESTMENTS

SouthernBase Co-op invests in the following areas of business where all our members are shareholders. Once we know how much profit we’ve made in the year, we’ll work out how much dividend each of our members will get. As a member of SouthernBase Co-op you also get some discounts when you do business in any arm of our investments.

Membership Category

All Our members are investors and shareholders of SouthernBase Co-op. Once we know how much profit we’ve made in the year, we’ll work out how much dividend each of our members will get

Associate Membership

An associate member the Society shall be a registered contributor to the fund of the co-operative society and holder in the shares of the Society who is a Staff, a contract staff on the payroll of any of the Port Harcourt Southern Base Co-operative Society Limited investments in Nigeria, who has applied for membership and has been admitted in the prescribed manner.

Ordinary Membership

The ordinary member is a member who is a contributor to the fund of the Society; and a holder of the minimum in the shares of Society. Ordinary members invest with a minimum amount of NGN 100,000.00
